Local move within Iowa

This moving company is a nightmare.

I got this moving company through Moving APT,  I had so many problems with this moving company.  If I could, I would give this company negative 5 stars.  1) The original quote was $2230, but they added a lot of hidden charges such as storage cost when they picked up my stuffs.  It ended up I have to pay $4066.  They can charge more  2) These guys left a full elevator load of my stuffs behind.  I had to call them to come back to pick up the items the next day.   3) Moving APT told me I could pay 1/3 of the cost at the time of order, 1/3 at pick up, and 1/3 at drop off.  I paid 1/3 upfront, but the driver Simon insisted that I had to pay off the whole thing at pick up time.  His reason was that in order to deliver my stuffs in 8 days, they had to collect all the money first.  However, it ended up I didn't get my stuffs for 20 days.  More about this later. 4) They disassemble all of my racks, shelves and many other things to save space.  According to the contract, they would reassemble everything at drop off.  They never did that.  I had to spend more than two days to reassemble everything. 5) Their business model is to pool many the goods of many parties and put them on one big truck.  So, instead of shipping my stuffs as soon as possible, the items were sitting in a storage in Chicago for 15 days. 6) They were so greedy and packed as many parties as possible in one truck, it ended up the truck was overweight.  They were stopped in the middle of the way and not allowed to move on.  They had to put all the stuffs to storage and hired another moving company to take some of the load.  They don't have a good system to track and separate goods of different parties either.  This moving back and forth has caused me losing more than $1000 of items.  Some of the items are not replaceable.  This business model is a total failure. 7) When I call them to tell them about my lost items, either they don't answer the phone, or just give me empty promise. This company is greedy, incompetent, and dishonest.  They should be ashame of themselves and close down the business.  .

Long-distance move from Illinois to Louisiana

Horrible Experience.

I was very unhappy with my moving experience using Mid Moving and Storage. I realized that moving from Chicago to New Orleans was not going to be a picnic. I got several estimates ranging from $900-$3000. Almost every single company told me that New Orleans is a difficult market to arrange a move to, but that 2-3 weeks was a reasonable time frame to make the move. I chose Mid Moving and Storage for several reasons.  They provided an estimate that was about mid-range, as did several other companies. This site recommends checking the IDOT registration and seeing that the company has more than one truck.  Of the companies that provided mid-range estimates, I narrowed them down to the companies with more than one truck. Then, after speaking with several salespeople, I decided to go with Mid Moving because the saleswoman Olivia guaranteed that my stuff would arrive in New Orleans on June 26th or 27th if I had it picked up on the 13th. That seemed more than reasonable, so I pulled the trigger. The first sign of danger was when what looked like a rental truck pulled up to my door with a paper Mid Moving sign taped to the side. They were on time and very professional, dilligently cataloging eveything.  When they were done loading my stuff, it was then I was informed that the ridiculous amount of tape and plastic wrap they used was going to cost me $200. I thought that was a little much, but oh well, you kind of figure on stuff like that. Then I was informed that the stairs were $120 in cash.  Which was about $45 more than the contract I signed stated. However, I was flustered and they already had my stuff, so I paid it. So I spend my last week and a half in Chicago sleeping on an air mattress and living out of a suitcase, which is totally fine because my stuff will be in New Orleans a day or two after I arrive. Since the contract states they'll, give you 24 hours notice before delivery, I called the only number I had for them, the one on the invoice, on the 25th as soon as I got to town. That's when I was informed that there wasn't a delivery date on my order and that I should call customer service. Called the number at least 5 times before anyone picked up.  No voicemail or anything.  Whoever answered then directed me to call the dispatcher in Texas. The dispatcher, Linda, then informed me that my stuff was not likely to get to NOLA until the 1st or the 2nd. I was obviously upset by this, but Linda was extremely helpful, explained to me the issue, and told me that the sales rep never should have guaranteed that delivery date. While I appreciated Linda's help, I felt I had been misled by the company and deserved a reduction of my bill. This is when my issues with this company truly began. The number given on the invoice is the only number given and is the number to the reservation department. I called and asked to speak to a supervisor several times, only to be told they are extremely busy and will call me back.  No one ever did.  Then I called the customer service number.  I must have called at least 20 times over several days.  When I could get the guy on the phone (same guy everytime), he offered me no help and even hung up on me twice.  I sent an email to my original sales rep about my dissatisfaction. No reply. Then, when my stuff didn't arrive on the 1st, I had to go through this whole process again, eventually getting put back in touch with Linda. Truly lovely and helpful, she unfortunately had to tell me that my stuff wouldn't arrive until the 4th or 5th. Again, a whole new round of calls about a reduction in my bill and no response whatsoever. Then my stuff doesn't get here until the 6th.  And when it does arrive, it looks like it was just drop-kicked into the trucks. There were holes that had been bashed into some of the boxes, leaving the stuff inside pretty dirty. Several pieces of furniture were scratched or broken.  One of the legs from a table broke off. I noticed the table was missing from the inventory when they had finished and asked the head guy where it was. He reluctantly went and got it. He wasn't even going to bring it in! I guess he just wanted me to think it was lost, as if that's better. They also brought up several items that weren't mine.  Luckily I caught most of those before they left.  However, as I was unpacking, I noticed that one of the boxes wasn't mine and that I was missing a box. I imagine you can see where this is headed. Several promises that they were looking into and would get back to me. Yeah, that didn't happen. I even just asked the "customer service" guy to just give me the contact info of the others on the route and I would try to solve this myself.  Have not heard from them since and stopped trying after all this nonsense caused me to run out of minutes on my cell plan.         Moving is stressful and expensive and I understand that things go wrong. Had there actually been a customer service rep that was helpful and didn't have me calling all over kingdom come, I might not be so adamant that nobody use this company. But they continuously made me feel as if I was being held hostage with absolutely no recourse.  All they had to say was "Sorry, that guarantee shouldn't have been made, how about we knock a hundred bucks off your bill". Nothing to them and it would have made me feel better. Also, the whole unconcern that I have someone else's stuff is really disconcerting. I will definitely be making a complaint to the Better Business Bureau.

Long-distance move from Illinois to New Hampshire

I will be hiring them soon.

These guys are AWESOME!  After using other movers in the past, I cannot tell you how much better these guys are, leaps and bounds. They came in at the estimate they promised and accomplished more than I thought they would.  They came on time when they said they would and my little studio apartment was packed up in no time at all. They were also very gentle with delicate electronic items. I would definitely recommend Mid moving & storage to my friends.

Binding Quotes with Mid Moving Are NOT Binding.

My experience with Mid Moving & Storage started out great.  I spoke with Leah Z. who helped me with my quote and how to put down the deposit.  It was all down hill from there.  I sent in a $200 check payment on top of my deposit and I asked continually (multiple e-mails and phone calls) about why it was not credited to my account and they said that dispatch had it.  I made my move from Chicago to New Orleans for a new job and my company was willing to pay the remaining balance of my move in order to have a smooth transition.  Mid-Moving would not produce a government W-9 tax form needed for my company to submit the payment.  They would not even produce an invoice.  When calling or e-mailing about the situation, I was left with no response.  Two days before my move, I called to change my inventory because I added somethings but subtracted some other things.  I was specifically told that if I change my inventory before the move then I would not be charged.  Jolene sent me an e-mail saying my account was locked but not to worry that they would make the adjustment on the day of the move.  Then the day of my move came.  The nightmare just got worse.  They used TEN rolls of tape at $4 a roll.  On what?  Well, I found out when when items arrived and I could barely open anything.  The movers would not accept my inventory change and insisted on charging me for the new items.  My binding quote (as it says on my quote) was around $1600.  They charged $200ish on supplies and then around $300ish for the additional items.  My BINDING quote was then around $2200.  The movers then insisted that I put 70% down on my initial total instead of my new balance after the deposit and payment I made.  I did not feel that was right.  I gave them a check, moved to New Orleans and then put a stop on the check.  Since it was payment related, I got a call almost immediately from the dispatch supervisor.  Not only was he insulting to my intelligence but he insisted that I e-mail him a check and he would not adjust any of the irrational fees that were attached to my move.  I made the complete payment just so I made sure I got my belongings and nothing happened to them.  Sixteen days later I received my things.  My bed frame was broken, a rubbermaid bin was completely bashed up, and boxes beat up.  Luckily, no glass was broken and besides my bed frame, everything will survive.  The movers in NOLA were nice and efficient though that did not make up for the rest of my experience.  The company lacks in communication, professionalism and integrity.  I would not ever use them again for my future moves nor will I recommend them to anyone I know.

Long-distance move from Illinois to Colorado

Awful mover avoid at all costs!

This company is the biggest scam ever! EVER! My wife and I used them for our move from Chicago to Denver and they made the process as difficult as possible.    First off, they misquoted us by approximately $1200, but that was just the beginning. Initially during the quote phone call my wife had gotten confirmation from their sales staff that our things would arrive a day after we would arrive in Denver. Once we arrived in Denver we called Mid Moving for a status updated and were informed (by an incredibly rude woman, who has NO business working in customer service) that our things weren't going to arrive for at least 2 weeks. When we told her about our conversation with the sales department she said it was simply not true, and in a few words or less basically told us to "f*ck off".   After repeated calls to mid moving and storage we received no consolation or information of when our stuff would arrive. Only after my wife posted a negative review on yelp and the BBB did we receive a call from one of their managers trying to smooth things out. Their manager tried to make us "go away" by asking us to remove our reviews after he gave us a tentative arrival date for our things. We gave him the benefit of the doubt and removed the reviews.    When the arrival date rolled around our stuff was nowhere to be seen, in fact it arrived a day late and late into the evening (nothing like the tentative time that the manager told us).    To add insult to injury quite a few of our things were broken including: a box that was clearly labeled "DO NOT BEND" was bent in half and taped in a way to keep it bent. The box contained one-of-a-kind screen-printed posters that my wife and I acquired at various music festivals over the years (these were deeply sentimental items that we have NO WAY of ever replacing). We had a wall-mount wooden storage unit/bulletin board that was cracked in the corner. When I mentioned it to the guy bringing our stuff in from the truck he basically shrugged and said that we could fix it with some glue!! Ridiculous. Approximately 10 of our boxes had various dents in them as if they were kicked and severely manhandled.   Here's the kicker: I work as an IT professional and I have a lab consisting of a military grade flight case with various (expensive) Cisco networking equipment in it. Upon arrival one of the core components in the flight case was damaged beyond repair -- so much so that it would not even power up. Once again, it was fine prior to the move, but after being handled by Mid Moving and storage it was no longer operational.   In short, if you're looking for awful/non-existent customer service, incorrect price quotes, and a bunch of broken stuff upon arrival Mid Moving and storage is your go-to mover!   Stay away from these guys.

Long-distance move from Illinois to California

A Total Night mare.

This has to be the worst moving company on this side of heaven! I thought after the horrible experience I had when these scandalous folks picked-up my furniture in Illinois that it could not get any worse, how wrong was I! First and formost they tend to low ball prices to get your business than hit you with the big shocker of upping the price to what ever.  At the initial pick up in IL the lead supervisor had a [EDIT] attitude from the time he stepped into my home. I practically forced him to say good morning. It was  clear he was not in the mood to work. He was extremely rude in his conversation.Twice I had to ask that someone from management in their local office be contacted and even than he spoke to them just as rude.   When it became time for my goods to be shipped to California (today is the day they promise to ship them) I was given a drivers name to contact. I contacted the driver, advise him who I was and told him I was asked by his office to call him to get a more realistic time as to when my furniture would be delivered to california. This guy immediately asked for my address where the furniture was going to be delivered for which I provided. He than told me to hold on. When he returned to the phone he said, Oh sir I am going to have to charge you an additional $750.00 because by law his 18 semi tractor is not allowed to park in residential neighborhoods, thus he would have to transfer my goods to a smaller truck than deliver them to the assigned location. Of course I told him he was crazy. Further if a 18 wheeler is not allow to park in residential areas than why was my goods placed on one when it was clear I was re locating to a residential neighborhood.  He than preceeded to say he can make a deal with me. I smelled the scam coming. I preceeded to tell him I'm not looking to make any types of deals with him since the deal was already made when I signed the initial contract. Needless to say the following morning I contacted the local traffic divison and they confirmed that it is not unlawful for a 18 wheeler semi-trailer to park inorder to load and/or un load goods in a residential neighbbor hood. I sent a text message to the driver stating the same. He later contacted me to say he will be late delivering my goods instead of the orig 11:00am -4:00pm window time frame he gave it became 11:am to 7pm.  Hours later it changed again to 8pm. I am still waiting. Never once did the driver apologize about any of this. It was as if he knew he was lying but wanted to see if I would fall for it. Again, I phoned the office requesting that the supposingly head guy Dan Nay call me but as of 5:17pm pacific no response from Dan.  Theres actually more to this story but  I'm getting sick just thinking about this horrible nightmare, thus Im ending my review. I will contact the BBB as well.

Long-distance move from Illinois to Texas

Do not use this company!

I would not recommend this moving company to anyone! We had a rather last minute move and did not have much time to get and compare quotes. We found Mid Moving & Storage online, and were bombarded with emails and phone calls. We finally decided to go with them because of the reasonable binding quote we were given by their sales rep, Nina Wilson. A few days after agreeing to the quote, we had a question about the actual measurements of small, medium, and large boxes. We measured our biggest box, and asked Nina how we could figure out how many boxes we would be allotted and stay within our cubic feet. (We had put on our inventory list that we would have 5 small boxes.) Nina told us not to worry that we had plenty of space and could have 10 large boxes. We had also requested our things be picked up on January 20, but she said they needed a 2 day window so we agreed to either the 19th or 20th. Nina said someone would call us on the 19th to let us know which of the 2 days our furniture would be picked up. We planned our entire day around waiting for this phone call that never came. Because the 19th was a Saturday, the office was closed so we had no way of talking to anyone to make sure everything was set. We left voice mails and sent emails to Nina but they all went unanswered. On the 20th, I called again and finally spoke to someone, and he said we were misinformed about the phone call, he explained that someone would call us the day before our things would be picked up. So, later that day, we did receive a phone call telling us that the movers would be by the next day between 1:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. On Monday, the 20th,  the movers came by to load our furniture. That is when they told us we would be charged for the tape they would have to use ($4.00/per roll), the furniture blankets, and for having to build "crates" for the televisions and mirror. We wrapped our TVs in bubble wrap, but apparently that was not good enough. So they used MY spare boxes to build these crates and still charged me. Oh, and as for Nina telling us not to worry about having more than 5 boxes, the mover told us we had to pay for extra cubic feet because our inventory list only had 5 boxes on it (we had 11 boxes of different sizes). So, $600 extra dollars later in extra cubic feet, supplies, and materials, our things were finally loaded. The foreman of the moving crew then started talking about a tip for his guys working so hard, and we felt put on the spot so we tipped them, generously. Oh, and my husband even helped them carry things down stairs to get things done quicker. We had no idea when to expect our furniture to be delivered, but on the binding quote we received, we read that it would take 3-5 business days. 3-5 business days went buy, and nothing, no phone calls, no emails, no communication whatsoever. I called the office again, and surprise, surprise, Nina was not available. However, I was told our furniture was scheduled to be delivered the first week of February and that someone from dispatch would call the day before the truck left. Again, radio silence for another week. I had to call again on February 4, and was patched through to dispatch. I was told the truck left that morning, and they would have the driver call me shortly to give me an ETA. He never called, so I called again the next day. This time I was given the driver's phone number and I had to call him. I explained that either my husband or I had to make arrangements with our work so I had to know when to expect him. He told me to expect him on Friday, the 7th, but he would call me on Thursday. He didn't call all day, so I called him again Thursday evening. He said we would be at my home on Friday, and would call me when he was on his way. I waited the entire day, and took a day off from my new job to wait for him. I called him at 4:30 p.m. and he said he had one last delivery to make and would then head over to me. At 8:00 p.m. he finally called and said he was on his way. He and his partner unloaded everything rather quickly, but I needed them to reassemble some of my furniture that had been disassembled at pick up. They finally finished and left a little after 11:00 p.m.As I mentioned, we thought the delivery time would be 3-5 business days, it took 14 business days. On the final contract you are given at pickup, the fine print says they can take up to 21 business days to deliver, that of course was not told to us when we agreed to use them. I am just glad everything arrived in one piece. My dresser has a little scratch, and one of my TV stands has  2 corners very scratched. I guess that is to be expected, though. I had 2 boxes clearly marked "Fragile" because my dishes were in there. One box was even a plain white box with "Fragile" written all over it. Those 2 boxes were the only ones in the bunch that arrived smashed! Luckily, me bubble wrapping every single item in those boxes paid off because nothing was broken. Stay away from this company!
